Referral steps

Confirm the state, plan, official directory, and privacy requirements before referring a member.

  1. Step 1Confirm the member's Medicaid state and whether the member is in fee-for-service or managed care in the payer system.
  2. Step 2Use the state's official doula program, registry, directory, or plan source before naming a provider.
  3. Step 3Tell the member to confirm that the doula accepts the member's Medicaid plan before scheduling.
  4. Step 4Keep names, IDs, dates of birth, service dates, and clinical notes in your organization's approved system, not in emails or public forms.
